Rip Curl E-Pro Online Surf Tournament Launches Tomorrow In South Africa


Saturday 1 August 2020, will see the first heat of the Rip Curl E-Pro online surf event go live on Instagram. The contest is hosted on the @surfopenleague Instagram account, and can also be viewed on the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SurfOpenLeague/ The first heat consists of Chad Du Toit from Durban, Dan Emslie from East London, and Matt Davis and Nate Plomaritis, both from Cape St Francis. The waves are a mix of barrels, carves, swoops and airs. There will only be one heat run on Saturday as an introduction to the tournament, and the next 11 heats of the first round will be run on Sunday 2 August. There are four judges. Cyril Nel, Johno Hutchison, Bongani Xulu and Dillen Lowenthal. All are experienced and highly skilled judges, bringing their own level of professionalism to the event. The fifth judge is the public vote. Fans, friends and surfers are encouraged to go to the heat on Instagram, and vote by tagging the surfer they want to win, in the comments section below the post.  All rider Instagram names will be in the post copy. Out of the four surfers in the first round, first and second-placed surfers jump to round 3, all third-place surfers go to the losers round 2, and all fourth-placed surfers are eliminated.
